Frequently Asked Questions
Products & Specifications
What is the difference between MTLx, FLEX SLS, and clearNET?
MTLx is our sealed-optic linear tunnel platform engineered for harsh underground transit environments (NFPA 130, IP65/66). FLEX SLS is a 27.5VDC modular architectural/site lighting system for concrete-embedded and architectural applications. clearNET is a networked control layer that overlays our LED platforms for daylight harvesting, occupancy response, and remote management. Most large transit projects deploy MTLx fixtures driven by clearNET controls.
Is the Portable Lamp Bank (PLB-01) still available?
Yes. The PLB-01 Portable Lamp Bank is an active Clear-Vu Lighting product, available in both AC (90-305VAC) and HV (450-1000VDC for third-rail and catenary work) variants. It carries US Patent 8,313,211 and is rated for -20°C to +50°C operation. Spec sheet available on request.
Is the Concrete Deck Box (CDB1) still in production?
Yes. The CDB1 is the pre-pour mounting accessory for FLEX SLS 27.5VDC systems, compatible with the FM2A, FM10A, and FM30A modules. It ships as a three-piece system (mounting plate, chamber, top + bottom plate) and is embedded in the concrete pour before final finish.
What is Sentinel Guard (Z4349)?
Sentinel Guard is the current-generation anti-ligature LED fixture for correctional, behavioral health, and secure-housing environments. It replaces the legacy FluxCore product line and is rated for IK10 impact, tamper-resistant fasteners, and zero ligature points. It is the active product in this category — please specify Sentinel Guard, not legacy part numbers.
Are the FPS450DT and FIS1 still available?
No. The FPS450DT and FIS1 are discontinued. For ice rink, gymnasium, and high-bay applications, please specify from the current MTLx or architectural LED catalogs. Our team can recommend a direct replacement for any legacy fixture — contact sales@clearvulighting.com with the legacy part number.
Compliance & Standards
Are Clear-Vu products BABA / BAA compliant?
Yes. The entire Clear-Vu Lighting transit lighting catalog is BABA (Build America Buy America) and BAA (Buy American Act) compliant — including MTLx, Occu-Smart, clearNET, FLEX SLS, and Sentinel Guard. We manufacture in Central Islip, NY and source covered iron, steel, and manufactured products domestically.
Are your fixtures NFPA 130 compliant for transit tunnels?
Yes. MTLx tunnel platforms are NFPA 130 compliant for fire/smoke performance in passenger rail tunnels. We supply third-party test reports on request for any specifier review or AHJ submittal.
Is cleanLED really NSF P442 certified?
Yes — cleanLED was the first LED luminaire family ever certified to NSF P442, the U.S. cleanroom and food-processing equipment standard. Certification covers the sealed-optic housing, washdown compatibility, and material composition required for cleanroom and food-grade environments.
Are your products DLC qualified?
Yes. Most Clear-Vu Lighting LED fixtures are DLC (DesignLights Consortium) qualified, which is required for utility rebate eligibility in most U.S. states. DLC qualified status is listed on each product page and can be verified at designlights.org.
Are your fixtures UL Listed?
Yes. All Clear-Vu LED fixtures carry UL Listed certifications appropriate to their application (UL 1598 luminaires, UL 1574 for emergency, UL 8750 for LED drivers). UL files available on request.
Warranty & Service
How long is the standard warranty?
Five years from date of shipment from our Central Islip, NY facility, covering manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. Extended warranty options up to 10 years are available on most product lines.
What is the 15% threshold rule?
If more than 15% of fixtures from a single shipment exhibit the same failure mode within the warranty period, we treat the failure as a batch defect and replace the entire affected lot — not individual fixtures. This protects you from having to file dozens of RGAs against a known production run.
How do I file a warranty claim?
Email service@clearvulighting.com with project name, fixture model, quantity affected, and a description of the failure mode. We issue an RGA number within one business day and supply a prepaid return label for in-warranty fixtures.
Can you pre-ship a replacement for critical sites?
Yes. For production-critical sites (hospitals, transit, secure facilities), we can pre-ship a replacement fixture before the failed unit is returned. Contact service@clearvulighting.com to coordinate.
Do you provide failure analysis reports?
Yes. Every returned fixture under RGA is analyzed for root cause, and the report is shared with the specifier and contractor. If the failure triggers the 15% batch rule, we notify the project team and coordinate the full-lot replacement.
Ordering & Lead Times
What are typical lead times?
Stock fixtures ship in 1-2 weeks. Custom or configured fixtures typically ship in 4-8 weeks depending on complexity. Large transit and infrastructure orders run on project-specific schedules — talk to our team early in the bid process for accurate dates.
Do you offer net-30 / net-60 terms?
Yes for established customers. New customers fill out our Credit Application (available on the Forms page) for net-30 terms. Larger institutional accounts can negotiate net-60 with bond or letter-of-credit backing.
Can you ship internationally?
We ship primarily to U.S. and Canadian destinations. International orders are handled case-by-case — contact sales@clearvulighting.com with project details.
Who handles the Mid-Atlantic territory?
Biben Lighting Sales handles Clear-Vu Lighting representation across the full Mid-Atlantic territory (NY, NJ, PA, MD, DE, DC, parts of VA). Contact information is on the Find a Rep page.
Do you offer DLC utility rebates?
Most of our LED fixtures are DLC qualified, which makes them eligible for utility rebates in most U.S. states. We supply DLC documentation packages for rebate applications on request — contact your sales rep with the project utility name and we'll coordinate.
Engineering & Design
Can you provide photometric (IES) files?
Yes. IES files for every active product family are available in the Resources section. For custom optical configurations or new layouts, our engineering team can run AGI32 / DIALux studies on request.
Do you offer custom fixture engineering?
Yes. Custom optics, housings, drivers, and control integration are core to our business. Most large transit, museum, and correctional projects use at least one custom-engineered fixture. Contact sales@clearvulighting.com to start a custom RFQ.
Can you integrate with our existing controls?
Yes. clearNET integrates with most BACnet, DALI, 0-10V, and Modbus building management systems. Custom integrations to Lutron, Wattstopper, and Crestron are supported on request.
Do you provide CAD files (DWG, Revit, 3D)?
Yes. 2D DWG and 3D Revit family files are available for most product lines on the Resources page. UG NX native files can be supplied to engineering teams under NDA.
Can your products be installed by a non-electrician?
Installation requirements depend on the specific product and electrical code. Most line-voltage fixtures require a licensed electrician. Low-voltage modular systems like FLEX SLS 27.5VDC have different requirements. Always follow local electrical code and the installation instructions shipped with the product.
